You’re not sure how long it’ll spin – 5 seconds or 15 seconds – but it’s enough to get under your skin. This lag is actually Netflix connecting to the cloud, so it can pull up the selected show. Honda and Verizon recently announced that they are teaming up to develop safety technologies for future connected vehicles. Such safety functions require super-fast data transmission using 5G along with mobile edge computing (MEC) technology to reduce the latency of compute-intensive operations.   Teaming up with the University of Michigan, the Honda-Verizon research collaboration has already tested 5G, MEC, and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology in several road incident scenarios. Verizon and Honda want to use 5G and edge computing to make driving safer – TechCrunch

Honda and Verizon are researching how 5G and mobile edge computing might improve safety for today’s connected vehicles and the future’s autonomous ones.  The two companies, which announced the partnership Thursday, are piloting different safety scenarios at the University of Michigan’s Mcity, a test bed for connected and autonomous vehicles. The aim of the venture is to study how 5G connectivity coupled with edge computing could allow for faster communication between cars, pedestrians and infrastructure. The upshot: Faster communication could allow cars to avoid collisions and hazards and find safer routes. Verizon, AWS launch private mobile 5G edge computing integrations

Verizon Business and Amazon Web Services said they will start delivering private mobile edge computing to enterprises in the US via integration with Verizon's private 5G network and AWS Outposts. The two partners will start providing private edge computing platforms to be used in factories, warehouses, school campuses, as well as autonomous robots.
