The Boeing Co., which has its corporate headquarters in Chicago, is reportedly at the center of a bidding war between Amazon, Microsoft and Google for a cloud computing contract. (Boeing Photo) Amazon, Microsoft and Google are involved in a bidding process to provide Boeing with cloud computing services, a contract that’s expected to be worth at least $1 billion over several years, The Information reports. Today’s report is attributed to four people with knowledge of the matter. We’ve reached out to Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud as well as Boeing, but this is typically something such companies doesn’t talk about publicly during negotiations — as The Information found out. (For what it’s worth, representatives of Google Cloud and Microsoft sent us “no comment” emails.) The Information says AWS considers the...

U.S. Defense Department officials are considering ending the JEDI cloud computing contract, the Wall Street Journal reported today. The JEDI, or Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure, contract is set to see the Pentagon spend as much as $10 billion over 10 years on cloud infrastructure and services. The Pentagon awarded the deal to Microsoft Corp. in 2019.  The decision to choose Microsoft for the project came as a surprise because Amazon Web Services Inc., the largest player in the public cloud market by revenue, was widely expected to win JEDI. Microsoft’s contract win, which AWS says was influenced by political interference from former President Donald Trump, has been the subject of litigation ever since. Today’s report that the Defense Department has floated the idea of scrapping the contract comes a few months after the Pentagon...

The glass spheres outside Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle, Sept. 25, 2019. [Grant Hindsley/The New York Times] A federal court said on Wednesday that it did not dismiss the possibility that former President Donald Trump interfered in the awarding of a military cloud-computing contract worth $10 billion, a decision that could result in the overhaul of a long-running effort to modernize technology at the Defense Department. The decision could be a victory for Amazon, which claimed it was passed over during contract deliberations because of Trump’s animosity toward its founder, Jeff Bezos. But the Defense Department has hinted that it would scrap the contract altogether if litigation over it dragged on, evaporating Amazon’s chance to secure the multibillion-dollar deal. The 10-year contract for the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure,...

Amazon’s Bid to Recover JEDI Cloud Computing Contract Stays Alive

social
WASHINGTON— Amazon. com Inc.’s bid to win back the Pentagon’s JEDI cloud computing contract stayed alive Wednesday as a federal judge rejected motions by the Defense Department and Microsoft Corp. to dismiss much of Amazon’s challenge of the contract award. Judge Patricia Campbell-Smith of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims rejected the motions, according to a court docket entry. Her opinion and order in the case weren’t made public immediately, making the extent of the government’s legal defeat unclear. The move is significant nonetheless because it opens the door to continued protracted court battles over the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure, or JEDI, contract. ...
